On 24 November 1959, the first beam was accelerated in CERN’s Proton Synchrotron. Today, the PS is still in operation, with its performance exceeding the initial specifications by orders of magnitude, making it one of the oldest particle accelerators still in operation.
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the PS, a festive colloquium will be held on 25 November 2019 at 2.00 p.m. in the Globe of Science and Innovation.
There will be four short presentations highlighting important phases in the life of the PS:
- History of the PS: Kurt Hübner
- RF Gymnastics: Roland Garoby
- Pushing the Performance: Simone Gilardoni
- Future and Upgrades: Klaus Hanke
