Decision on central heating to be made on 27 October

Central heating will be gradually turned on throughout CERN and all buildings will be heated as soon as temperatures start sinking.

Each year, central heating at CERN is turned on in October, and an optimal start date is determined based on the weather forecast and, more importantly, on the night-time temperatures. This year, in view of the energy crisis and in accordance with Swiss recommendations, the decision on the restart date will be taken on 27 October.

We continue to encourage everybody on site to avoid switching on individual electrical heaters, which would cancel out the objective of this exceptional measure: saving energy at CERN.
